Unfortunately, for various reasons, I’m going to DNS this coming weekend’s Umstead 100. I know it’s the right decision, but I can’t help but feel down about it (particularly after getting lucky on registration day and securing a coveted spot).
It’s also a little disorienting, since Umstead was going to be my first event of 2016. Barring any last minute decisions to enter something before June (I’m keeping an eye on you, Collegiate Peaks…), my next race is going to be the South Park Marathon. And that’s a big shift in training/prep mindset.
However, with the South Park Marathon being run up in the high country, with a long climb, it should be a good stepping stone on the way to putting myself in a better position to finish the Run Rabbit Run 100 in September.
